    US-CERT has updated its warning on the “Backoff” POS malware. The new release states, “Over the past year, the Secret Service has responded to network intrusions at numerous businesses throughout the United States that have been impacted by the “Backoff” malware. Seven POS system providers/vendors have confirmed that they have had multiple clients affected. Reporting continues on additional compromised locations, involving private sector entities of all sizes, and the Secret Service currently estimates that over 1,000 U.S. businesses are affected.”

    Earlier this summer, predictions were positive that Apple’s iBeacon would take off.  Venture Beat reported that the ubiquitous iBeacon is Apple’s portable, low-cost transmitter that notifies other iOS 7 devices of its presence, and that it had won raves because of its low power signatures and rapidity of sending push notifications to Apple hardware like the iPhone, iPad, and even iPods.

  7. Macy's Tests Same Day Shipping

    Amazon and Google are in a race to win customers with same day shipping, but a new competitor is entering the battle. Macy's has launched its own same day shipping offers, testing the service in four markets, reports Cincinnati Business Courier. Macy's recentlylaunched a digital wallet option, My Wallet, for customers, and had been experimenting withsame day delivery in March. The retailer had implemented the service as part of its omni-channel strategy and was trying to compete with Amazon.
