Case Study: Consider Mac-Based POS

POS systems can dramatically reduce the time you have to spend doing inventory, tallying sales figures, and other repetitive but important paperwork. When retailers consider implementing a POS system, they usually turn to PC-based POS systems, considering the market is dominated by these types of systems. However, more and more retailers are implementing Mac-based POS systems for a variety of reasons.

Dani Diduck, director of marketing and co-owner of Gravity Gear, a family-owned and operated outdoor sporting goods retailer, had several reasons to implement a new POS system. Since the store's inception in 1992, Gravity Gear used one primitive cash register, provided handwritten receipts to customers, and lacked sales history and inventory visibility. Diduck used educated guesses when conducting replenishment. Because Diduck does most of her work from home, she was forced to haul her paperwork with her to and from her trips to the store. Finally, the retailer was interested in launching an e-commerce website and needed a POS system to monitor and streamline inventory for both channels.
