Case Study: Decrease Labor With Real-Time POS Software
By Integrated Solutions for Retailers magazine
When the retailer's software provider merged with Celerant, another POS software provider, development of the DOS-based software system halted, and Shoe Gallery decided it was time to search for a system to accomplish the primary goal of increasing visibility of inventory across the locations. Shoe Gallery decided on Celerant Command Retail. Command Retail, written in Java, can manage multiple locations in real time and provides many functions in one solution, including POS transactions, inventory tracking, CRM (customer relationship management), purchase orders, reporting, e-commerce, and financials. "Celerant's system offers all these things, but doesn't force you to use all the modules. We wanted to continue using QuickBooks for our financials and stay with our merchant processor," says Brooks. "The Celerant solution allowed us to do that."
The solution was installed remotely. Sixteen new computers were purchased from Dell, along with servers at each location and a main database to operate the solution. The servers were shipped to Celerant to be configured and loaded with the software before being sent to the Shoe Gallery. Brooks trained on the system via conference calls and test databases, and then he trained the staff throughout a two-to-three week period.
