If you want to witness consumers' apprehension, watch as they wait while your credit card processor takes more than 10 seconds to complete a transaction. During that time, consumers fear card rejection, double payments, etc. As a retailer, you too feel that worry because credit transaction failures can cause the POS system to record a timeout and kick the system into manual authorization mode. During the manual authorization mode, some transactions may be declined by the bank, resulting in revenue loss. Any IT issues that may result in store system outages, application slowdowns, or credit transaction failures need to be detected and fixed in a timely manner. Otherwise, you run the risk of costly and measurable chargeback costs and dissatisfied customers.
