The current economic climate has taken a severe toll on retail. Over the past year, we have seen multiple national and regional level companies declare bankruptcy, shutter stores, and cease operations. Even the most successful retailers have substantially scaled back their growth plans for new stores. Department heads were forced to deal with staff cuts, capital expenditure freezes, and severe travel and operational budget restrictions.
