Best Practices boil down to creativity and enthusiasm
International Paper (IP) never did things the usual way, which is why they are an industry leader in warehouse logistics. The $24.5+ billion/year paper maker chose to be more than just a chain of mills, and in 1999 established an industry first, in its ASURYS business, formerly known as Smart Packaging. The initial focus was on solving complex packaging problems for its mills, warehouses and internal facilities as a way to improve efficiencies and deliver value-added service to its customers.
So, when International Paper turned to addressing the problems of customer service – from inaccurate inventory to mis-shipments and reverse logistics – they used radio frequency identification (RFID) technology as just a starting point for engineering a RFID-enabled warehouse tracking system. The work proved such a success that IP now offers RFID consulting and systems integration services to its customers through its ASURYS business.
