Traditionally, store clerks were grounded to just one spot: the in-store POS station. With the evolution of technology, retailers can now set up mobile stores as another means to sell merchandise. This new type of selling, called "pop-up retail," is made possible with the miniaturization of point-of-sale equipment, making it portable enough to take outside the store.

On the forefront of this trend is Retail Hero with the release of RMS Lite. RMS Lite integrates with a retailer's current Microsoft Dynamics RMS POS system and provides a mobile POS interface that coupled with a touch screen tablet PC puts a portable order placement and transaction processing station the size of a small laptop in a sales representative's hands. RMS Lite features everything one would expect of standard POS software including visual inventory navigation menu, an inventory lookup screen, and the ability to process transactions in cash, debit or credit. RMS Lite also supports the PCI-DSS requirements by using TransSentry technology developed by Mercury Payment Systems.

Released in July 2010 at the RetailNOW Conference, RMS Lite is a brand new and unique product from Retail Hero. Though it may function as an additional POS lane at the store, RMS Lite is designed to supplement Dynamics RMS for applications where using the original RMS POS interface is inconvenient. In addition to using RMS Lite for pop-up retail applications, it can be used as a line-busting mobile cashier with a tablet PC, ad-hoc cash-only POS lanes, and for offsite sales at flea markets, trade shows, or anywhere mobile sales is possible. This is made possible with its "Offsite Mode" feature that splits the inventory between the store and the mobile platform, performs transactions and then re-synchronizes when returned to base.
