Brookstone, Inc. is a specialty retail company with more than 300 Brookstone brand stores nationwide and in Puerto Rico. The stores are usually located in airports and large shopping malls. It also operates via Hard To Find Tools and Collections catalogs.
Brookstone always performed regular store audits using paper checklists, which were scored and returned to headquarters for entry into spreadsheets. The LP manager then made copies of the final reports and faxed them to the district and regional managers, as well as to Brookstone's Director of Loss Prevention, Wayne McBrian. For a short period, Brookstone used an audit tool in its handheld Palm environment. To achieve greater flexibility, better record-keeping capabilities, and instantaneous communications of audit results, McBrian searched for a new audit tool.
