Epson Series Tile

By Epson America

Welcome to this three-part guest series, presented by Epson, which focuses on one of the single-most integral technology components of the retail operation, POS printing. This series will take a deep dive into "POS Printing: Past, Present, & Future".

Retailers have unique technology needs, which usually map to different stages of growth and expansion in the number and size of stores. Before the introduction of what we know today as point of sale (POS) solutions, retailers relied on electronic cash registers (ECR) controlled with proprietary software, with very limited functionality. Remarkably, many of today's small retailers still rely on these antiquated systems. Many of them are just now beginning to move toward more functional POS solutions, allowing them to reap advantages like greater functionality, increased productivity, and minimized errors. As big-box retail giants like Wal-Mart and Costco emerge to become the go-to stores for everything from toiletries and groceries to jewelry and furniture, the smallest retailers have more of an incentive than ever to stay relevant, and technology can represent a significant competitive advantage.
