Retail Hardware: Smooth's Sports Grille Deploys POS With Fingerprint Recognition For Employee Use

Smooth's Sports Grille, an upscale sports bar and restaurant located in Long Beach, Calif., has deployed point-of-sale (POS) terminals with integrated fingerprint recognition from NCR Corporation.

Hospitality Technology Systems (HTS), an NCR reseller and Gold-level member of the NCR RealPartner program, is responsible for the sale and installation of the solution, which includes NCR RealPOS 70 terminals running Digital Dining software from Menusoft Systems Corporation.

The integrated fingerprint readers on the NCR terminals are used by Smooth's for employee login and logout, helping assure the accuracy of time and attendance records. Employees also use the fingerprint reader as they enter orders and other transaction information at the terminal – rather than swiping an identification card or entering a password that can be easily lost or forgotten.

"Smooth's has become a hot spot in downtown Long Beach, thanks to our reputation as a fine dining destination and our bustling location by the water and convention center," said John Morris, owner of Smooth's Sports Grille. "The NCR and Digital Dining solution provided by HTS delivers the flexibility, durability and speed that our high-volume business demands. And the fingerprint recognition applications have definitely enhanced our operational efficiency."

Reliable and secure, the NCR RealPOS 70 is built to provide years of dependable operation. Installed in more than 100,000 store and restaurant locations worldwide, the workstation is designed for ease of service, with components readily accessible for repairs and upgrades.

Digital Dining software is built to meet the needs of complex hospitality environments with features including: customizable checks and POS printing; preauthorizing credit cards for bar tabs and a one-touch drink recorder; robust and customizable reports; automatic 24-hour rollover to help prevent interruption of business; and menu modification for time of day and promotions.
