Receipt Printer Cuts Credit Card, Check Fraud

SelecTransportation Resources is a family of commercial transportation dealerships that specializes in sales and service of heavy trucks and trailers and in parts and accessories. According to John Ellsworth, SelecTransportation's controller, a truck dealership is no different from a typical car dealership in terms of the types of products and services it offers and the retail processes it uses.
Ellsworth says that, in general, car and truck dealerships tend to lag behind most other types of retailers in terms of technology adoption, even though their needs and business challenges are inherently the same. One of those challenges is the proliferation of check and credit card fraud. "Truck parts and services are very expensive, and a typical transaction can be around $10,000. When customers are charging that much on a credit card or writing us a check, we need to be sure they are who they say they are and that they are authorized to use the cards or checks they present. We've incurred thousands of dollars in bad debts over the years due to credit card and check fraud."
