Short-term and long-term success in a multi-tier, multi-enterprise, and multi-channel retail supply chain is possible. Retailers and manufacturers need to apply an ingrained focus on automating and integrating supplier collaboration (from design to delivery) and supply chain visibility (from raw materials procurement, purchase order process, production, and shipping schedules of factories that serve suppliers and retailers). Aberdeen surveyed 100 enterprises during February and March 2011 to determine the current state and projected improvements in the design-to-deliver collaboration, visibility, and integration processes in the retail supply chain.
Aberdeen used the following four key performance criteria to distinguish Best-in-Class companies:
- Attained electronic communication with 79.8% of suppliers
- Possessed a perfect order rate of 94.1% delivered to customer
- Decreased out-of-stock rate by 21.4% year over year
- Decreased inbound logistics costs by 6.9% year over year
