Most IT departments prefer to standardize on only a few hardware and software platforms to simplify the overall difficulty of managing the entire installation. This typically favors industrial computers with their platform approach of providing several form factors based on the same electronics and operating system. However, convergence of technologies on new smart phones appeals to managers that would prefer to use a single device when interacting with the business.
