Despite its growing popularity as a superior loss prevention tool, some retailers are still on the fence about IP video surveillance. What will convince them to hop over that fence to the network side of surveillance? A solid understanding of what’s specifically in it for them. To make a convincing argument for change it helps to revisit the basics of why the technology has been developed and what benefits a retailer can expect to achieve. This is the first of a three-part series focusing on the core benefits of adopting IP surveillance and how to make a seamless transition from analog to network video.

Picture Perfect: Better Image Quality

If you can’t make heads or tails of what went on, what good is a recording of the event? We’ve all seen the newscasts where the reporters have asked us to identify this person caught on camera.  We look at that image and think to ourselves, “I couldn’t identify that person from that image if they were standing next to me!”

Compared to the fuzzy world of analog recording, IP video delivers real forensic value with greatly improved image clarity. How does IP video do it? The keys are de-interlacing technology and high-definition resolution.
