AML Announces The Introduction Of The Monarch Interactive Kiosk

New interactive kiosk provides desktop performance with the feel of a tablet.

AML, a leading manufacturer of kiosks and barcode data collection devices, has introduced the new Monarch interactive kiosk. The Monarch is a fully embedded small-form-factor fixed-mounted kiosk that combines the power of a desktop operating system with the user experience of a tablet, with power consumption so low it can be operated on standard PoE-equipped networks (Power-over-Ethernet).

Equipped with a powerful 1.4 GHz Intel processor, Windows 8.1 Industry Pro operating system, and a multi-point projective capacitance touch screen, users get the performance benefits of a desktop computer but with the feel of a tablet. The high resolution 10.4” color display delivers vivid graphics and the integrated barcode scanner will scan any one-dimensional or two-dimensional barcode currently in use, making it perfect for a myriad of retail or hospitality consumer-facing applications. The Monarch can also be equipped with 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 radios.

“Most small-form-factor kiosks on the market today offer scaled-down embedded operating systems that limit software developers in their application development and are equipped with older-technology resistive touchscreens that today’s consumers aren’t familiar with” according to Mike Kearby, President of AML. “The Monarch brings to the retailer an affordable kiosk with a small footprint, a desktop operating system, a user experience that is familiar and intuitive to most consumers, and with power consumption so low it can be powered over their network connection. There’s nothing like it on the market today.”

With the Monarch, software developers can utilize the full power of the Windows 8.1 operating system and IT Managers can take advantage of enhanced security technologies like Secure Boot, Trusted Boot, and BitLocker. And because the Monarch is a fully-embedded solution with no moving parts like cooling fans or hard drives, its reliability far outpaces conventional “PC-in-a-Box” kiosks.

The Monarch is the ideal solution for “endless aisle” applications, loyalty program enrollment, gift registries, price verification, product locator, or a host of other retail applications geared towards improving the customer’s experience while in the store. Because it is a built-for-purpose device specifically developed for commercial use, its in-service longevity will far outpace that of consumer grade devices deployed for similar applications.
