Beyond Mobile Device Security: Comprehensive Endpoint Management

From kiosks to mobile POS, advances in retail technology deliver consumer convenience and increases in staff efficiency. That can be a tremendous competitive edge, and stores are wise to pursue new solutions aggressively. At the same time, it all adds up to a double whammy for retail IT.

The first issue is security: More endpoints means more opportunities for hackers. That’s one of the main drivers for the stringent requirements of PCI DSS 3.0. As a result, as IT is pushed to implement the latest and greatest, it bears a serious responsibility for thoroughly securing every new implementation.

Hand-in-hand with the need for increased endpoint security is the need for increased endpoint management, which poses big questions. How can we keep pace with changing operating systems, apps and device mixes? How far can or should we extend IT control to corporate data on personal devices, and what’s the best protection against exposure when one is lost or stolen? How do we ensure PCI compliance across all of this? And from a business perspective: As complexity increases, how can we keep IT costs and resource requirements under control?
