Datalogic Displays Enterprise Digimarc Barcode Solutions At NRF 2015

Datalogic, a global leader in Automatic Data Capture and Industrial Automation markets, and world-class producer of bar code readers, mobile computers, sensors, vision systems and laser marking equipment, will present end to end retail supply chain Digimarc Barcode solutions at NRF 2015 in booth 3616.

Datalogic products and solutions are used throughout the retail industry to identify, track and process products. Mobile computers, vision sensors, imaging technology, handheld scanners, and checkout scanners identify and track products moving through the retail supply chain for processing, assuring safety, delivery, payment and more. In most cases these devices rely on industry standard bar code symbology for identification. These bar codes provide enterprises a reliable means to track items but there are limitations and challenges where bar codes can fall short. Bar codes are limited in their data capacity and require placement on item packaging. Placement is normally limited to one location which can hinder efficiency while personnel search for it. Package damage, poor printing processes, and poor lighting can all affect the ability to read the bar code. Throughout the retail supply chain enterprises are working to increase efficiency beyond the limits of the bar code.

Datalogic has been collaborating with Digimarc Corporation to speed retail checkout. The Digimarc Barcode encodes existing bar code data invisibly and reapeatedly across all package surfaces thereby making the entire package scannable at checkout. Datalogic has enabled its Magellan 9800i multi-plane imaging scanner to detect and process Digimarc Barcodes, significantly reducing checkout times for retailers and boosting the average number of items scanned per minute.

Realizing that digital watermark technology can benefit the retail supply chain end to end, Datalogic has now enabled mobile computers and handheld scanners to decode the Digimarc Barcode. “We work closely with retailers worldwide and understand that they are looking to maximize efficiency throughout their enterprise and see digital watermark technology as a way to make that happen,” comments Bill Parnell, CEO Datalogic ADC. “We have added Digimarc Barcode decoding features to the Datalogic Memor X3 mobile computer, PowerScan PM9500 industrial scanner, and the Joya X2 self-shopping device. This enables retail processes such as inventory control, queue busting, price checking, shelf replenishment, and more can benefit from increased efficiencies.”

Datalogic will be demonstrating the use of Digimarc technology throughout the retail enterprise in booth 3616 at NRF. Attendees can learn how mobile computers can read Digimarc Barcodes in the warehouse to manage product inventory; PowerScan handheld scanners can be used at checkout or in the warehouse; and the Joya X2 can be used for self-shopping, queue busting, and item management.
