This series has previously covered the qualities common to successful public spaces. The million-dollar question for retailers is: how can I use these qualities to turn my own space into a “Third-Place” style destination?

A great space is arrived at through a thorough process that incorporates both artistic and technical elements. In this installment, we will examine universal principles of design that you can apply to your own stores. A retailer will need to have defined his or her store’s brand, culture, and mission before beginning a redesign in order to assure a successful process.
