E-Commerce — Focus On Fulfillment

This year’s survey highlights the shift to omni-channel by offering cross-channel inventory visibility and fulfillment.

The 2013 Retail Technology Budget Survey showed a drop in retailer spending on e-commerce technology but showed a 23% increase in cross-channel inventory management spending, the largest increase in any category in the survey. A significant amount of this increase is due to companies upgrading legacy supply chain systems to handle fulfillment to all channels.

Best Buy Canada has been in e-commerce for more than 10 years. Even though the company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Best Buy Co., Inc., the e-commerce division runs on a completely separate platform from the U.S. parent company. Robert Pearson, VP of e-commerce for Best Buy Canada, discusses the challenges his company faces with e-commerce technology.
