Pop-up store will be transformed into permanent store after the holidays and open in Spring 2015.

Eddie Bauer has announced the opening of a new pop-up store in Union Square in New York City, scheduled to be open through the holiday shopping season, according to a press release.

"Opening a new store in Manhattan is exciting for the brand," says Mike Egeck, Chief Executive Officer for Eddie Bauer. "New York City remains the center of the retail industry, and a thriving community of outdoor enthusiasts. We are proud to serve as the city's premier retailer for quality outdoor adventure products."

The Eddie Bauer pop-up will be open from November 6, 2014 to February 14, 2015, and will provide access to a curated selection of products and gear from all four Eddie Bauer series: First Ascent, Sport Shop, Travex and Outdoor, as well as select Eddie Bauer footwear styles.

The temporary store is equipped with a Twitter-activated vending machine to attract and reward passersby.

It will be the brand’s first location in the city since 2007. “We know we have a lot of customers in the area,” Eddie Bauer Chief Executive Mike Egeck told Fortune. He said the company crunched data gleaned from its online business shows the retailer has “at least 20,000” customers in Manhattan, and some 250,000 Eddie Bauer shoppers in New York.

During the first two weeks of the opening, the machine will dispense Eddie Bauer products, gift cards and discount promotions to customers who engage in social sharing while in the store using @eddiebauer and #liveyouradventure.

After the holidays, the pop-up will be transformed into a permanent flagship store, scheduled for reopening in the spring.  The company says that the new location will serve as “New York City’s ultimate resource for outfitting outdoor adventures.”

The pop-up will “bring to life the storied heritage of the original outdoor outfitter, from the creation of the first down jacket that revolutionized the industry to the innovative, award-winning outerwear, apparel and gear for today's modern expeditions,” according to the press release.   The original Eddie Bauer down suit worn by Jim Whittaker, the first American to summit Mount Everest during the historic 1963 expedition, will also be on display.

Eddie Bauer Holdings Inc. is headquartered in Bellevue, WA. The brand was established in 1920 in Seattle by Pacific Northwest outdoorsman, Eddie Bauer.
