Going Green And Staying In The Black

Obtaining contact information from a customer at the point-of-sale can prove troublesome for a variety of reasons.  Some worry about privacy concerns.  Others may brush off signing up for those reward points because they’re in a hurry.  And then there’s the well-intentioned, but perpetual procrastinator, who always shrugs off registering for that loyalty card until “next time.”  But next time never comes...  

Presenting the customer with the option of receiving a receipt electronically can often convince a customer to volunteer information they may otherwise attempt to withhold, as Celerant Technology’s CEO, Ian Goldman, pointed out in a recent interview with MSNBC.  During the interview, Goldman described the struggle retailers face when obtaining customer information and explains how many retailers attempt to utilize green receipts as a business strategy.
