Ten years ago, workforce management applications could deliver significant value with functionality at the core of their development philosophy. Today, users demand richer, savvier solutions that provide superior performance, speed, an intuitive interface, and an aesthetically pleasing design.

Providers must therefore move beyond the paradigm of the so-called user interface (UI), which considers an application's visual appearance and usability only after core design is complete, and must instead embrace the paradigm of the user experience (UX), which initiates the design process with the user's perspective in mind.
