A Q&A with Nick D’Alessio, Global Retail Solutions Development Manager, Zebra Technologies

Q1. What is IoT and what does that have to do with Retail?

Nick D’Alessio: An academic definition of IoT states, "Smart interconnected devices that businesses use to get more visibility into the identification, location and condition of products, assets, transactions, or people to drive more effective and timely business decisions or to improve customer interactions.” When you apply this to retail, IoT powers the solutions that help retailers solve the omnichannel challenges of sales conversion and fulfillment. IoT enables retailers to engage and have a more meaningful interaction with the shopper.  It also provides much better visibility, and thus better manageability of the supply chain and inventory systems.
