Locks certified for use in the highest level High Velocity Hurricane Zone areas, including Miami-Dade and Broward counties of Florida, by approved independent test lab.

Kaba Access & Data Systems Americas is pleased to announce that two of its electronic lock models have been certified by an approved independent test lab as compliant to the Florida Building Code (FBC) standards for installation in hurricane regions. Both the E-Plex 2000 and PowerPlex 2000 Series Mortise locks with deadbolt and auto-deadbolt are certified for use in the highest level High Velocity Hurricane Zone areas, including Miami-Dade and Broward counties of Florida.

Both the E-Plex 2000 and PowerPlex 2000 are electronic pushbutton locks that provide exterior access by a PIN code while allowing free egress. These locks offer 100 user codes and 1,000 audit events, as well as variety of authority levels and user parameters. E-Plex and PowerPlex 2000 locks eliminate problems and costs associated with issuing, controlling, and collecting keys and cards and leverage the features/functions of a mechanical and electronic lock into one device.

The E-Plex 2000 operates with three alkaline batteries and can deliver 100,000 cycles before changing batteries. The PowerPlex 2000 is a self-powered lock that does not require batteries or another power source; it generates its own power with every turn of the lever.

According to Mark Shellberg, product manager, Kaba ADS Americas, "Florida is recognized as a state with the most stringent product requirements for impact resistance, wind resistance, and water intrusion in hurricane-prone regions. And, although this standard is not realized in other coastal states, the FBC standard assures that our E-Plex 2000 and PowerPlex 2000 locks will meet or exceed the standards in all other Atlantic Coast and Gulf Coast states." In addition to the certification of FBC standards, both the E-Plex 2000 and PowerPlex 2000 locks are ANSI/BMMA Grade 1 certified, meet the Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility standard, and are UL 10C fire-rated.
