Miguel Almeida will take the post starting in mid-July to lead Lululemon’s digital team

Yoga-inspired athletic apparel company lululemon athletica inc. has announced that it has chosen Miguel Almeida as the new Executive Vice President, Digital, to direct their digital agenda and lead the digital team.

Laurent Potdevin, CEO of lululemon athletica explained in a company statement that :”Digital is the global store that has no walls – one where we can offer our entire product assortment, speak in all languages and allow our stories and ambassadors to come to life in ways that we haven’t yet imagined.”

He asserted, “With his track record of accelerating digital transformations, Miguel is well-positioned to champion lululemon’s digital world and lead our strong digital team in creating a seamless experience for our guests across all touch points – whether it’s in store, on the web, or through a mobile device.”

Almeida most recently served as Group VP, Digital Commerce and Mobile Solutions for Walgreens, responsible for omni-channel initiatives, mobile solutions, and online-to-consumer commerce across a variety of digital brands, but he also has over 15 years of operational and senior leadership with a focus on digital strategies.

Almeida explained, ““Digital provides a unique platform to amplify the power of the lululemon brand in innovative ways, deepen the connection with our guests across all channels and extend our reach globally. Ultimately, it’s about helping guests find inspiration, the right product and empowering them to live their best lives.”

This move clearly highlights the desire of Lululemon to step up its digital operations, particularly as it rebounds from recent merchandising, logistical, and public relations issues, according to Retail Dive.

As of February 1, 2015, according to Bloomberg Business,  it operated 302 corporate-owned stores under the lululemon athletica and ivivva athletica brand names in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Singapore.
