Last week I attended Aberdeen Group's Retail and Consumer Markets Summit in New York. The turnout was great, and the speakers were phenomenal. The information that the retailers gave during their presentations was surprisingly candid, but one theme was prevalent throughout nearly every event — customer centricity.
The use of mobile devices has long been commonplace in retail stores across the globe. A recent survey by AMR Research/Gartner concluded that mobile store technologies will cover 72% of all retail locations during this year.
Retailers often create estimates of the sales potential for their new locations. However, the methods, degree of complexity, and accuracy can vary widely, from basic seat of the pants estimates to more robust spatial interaction models.
Use of mobile computers for bar code scanning, signature recording, voice and data communication, and many other tasks has taken mobile employee productivity and customer service to previously unimagined levels.
