Network Video's Impact On The Retail Enterprise

IRT talks with Hedgie Bartol, Business Development Manager for Retail at Axis Communications about the effect of video on retailer networks along with the benefits of network video to SMRs, the biggest security concerns for retailers in 2016, and how retailers can gain insight into the large amount of network video they are collecting.

IRT: How does network video impact the entire enterprise? 

Hedgie: By its nature, network video can impact the entire enterprise in many ways. Bandwidth is one consideration when looking at any data that comes across the network. This can be resolved by using multi-streaming technology or leveraging lower resolutions to reduce the impact during remote viewing (of video) while retaining higher quality video for evidentiary purposes on site.  However, the bigger impact on the enterprise is the cross-functional use of video by other departments beyond loss prevention, such as marketing or operations. Some additional benefits of network video across the enterprise include validating displays, analyzing the impact of a new store design and training employees remotely.
