Reflexis Systems, Inc. recently announced its next generation Adaptive Real-Time Execution platform (patent pending) for retailers that want to synchronize store-level activities with real-time customer demand to provide the best possible in-store shopping experience. The platform takes real-time data from disparate sources — RFID systems, video, traffic counters, POS, workforce management systems, and social media analytic services — analyzes the inputs, and then intelligently assigns best-practice actions to respond to what's happening NOW inside and outside the store.

Many industry leading hardware and software vendors have formed partnerships to integrate their respective solutions with the Real-Time Adaptive Execution platform.

"The question retailers face is no longer, `How can we make the in-store experience as satisfying as the web?' It has become, `How can we make our stores more significant than showrooms for online merchants?'" says Paula Rosenblum, Managing Partner at RSR Research. "By taking disparate pieces of data — in many cases already available to retailers in the technologies they have deployed in their stores — and turning them into actionable and useful tasks, applications like those being put forth by Reflexis will provide a solution to drive continuous improvement and a consistently positive in-store shopping experience. This is more important than ever in today's world, where the value of the store is increasingly questioned by consumers."

"Retail labor scheduling and allocation is typically performed weeks in advance of a scheduled work day based on data that is months and even years old. Accuracy reports of advanced planning and scheduling at a corporate level mask what really happens in the store during the time of customer interaction. Even the most accurate labor forecast is handicapped when predicting customer demand – which changes dramatically driven by social media buzz, on-line ordering, unexpected disruptions, and other real-time events," said Murtaza Ghadyali, Vice President of Product Management for Reflexis. "The Reflexis Adaptive Real-Time components provide retailers with real-time visibility to in-store events as they happen and ensure employees are responding with best-practice actions to increase sales and profitability."

During NRF 2012, Reflexis will demonstrate how a store armed with the new platform is able to deal with disruptive business scenarios such as:

  • Receive alert from Business Intelligence application regarding metrics such as conversion rates and assign best practice corrective action if performance does not meet target levels
  • Alert store personnel to high value customer presence, with prescribed follow-up action and past buying history/preferences provided on smart phone
  • Identify store customer traffic patterns, direct employees to where they are most needed (e.g., checkout stand or a busy store department)
  • Real-time incoming truck delivery notification — know items/cartons/delivery time and assign specific unloading instructions, including real-time shelf replenishment tasks
  • Capture consumer "buzz" on social media networks about product trends, customer traffic flows — even impending flash mobs — and alert supply chain, merchandising, and store operations with best practice action
  • Identify suspicious activity such as shoplifting and alert appropriate in-store employees
