As mobile device manufacturers race to respond to the Apple assault, retailers come out the big winners.
When Apple set the new standard for multifunction mobile devices a few years back, not even Steve Jobs could have predicted the demand they would create among retail business users for applications that were previously off-limits to consumer-grade hardware. Today, whether for frontof- store functions like POS or back office receiving tasks, retailers face many more mobile hardware decisions than they did a few years ago; Androids and iPhones are increasingly being evaluated alongside Motorolas and Intermecs. We got in touch with Brad Fick, president at Direct Source, to help us figure out where all this mobile mayhem is headed.
