Retail losses in the form of shrink (stolen, damaged,or lost merchandise) and transaction fraud continue to occupy a sizeable share in the cost of operations of retailers, as indicated by 680 retail companies surveyed by Aberdeen in November 2007. Data shows that 60% of retailers surveyed reported year-over-year shrink or write-off at least 1.75% of their total inventory (as a percent of sales). Submitted by Aberdeen Group
