As sales channels have become ever more tightly intertwined, store-based fulfillment options have migrated from the “nice-to-have” category into the “must-have” column for an increasing number of retailers, according to Ed Stevens, founder and CEO of Shopatron. While these services often require upgrades to back-end systems, particularly order management solutions, as well as careful consideration in deciding which stores can support e-commerce fulfillment, the benefits — more satisfied customers, incremental sales, and a competitive edge against pure-play retailers — are worth the investment.
