Video analytics were the next big thing in retail 10 years ago, but it took the maturation of the technology for the industry to finally jump on board.
This year’s retail spending survey indicates that investment in video surveillance is on the rise for the third straight year. For those of us in the security industry, this is not a surprise. Video technologies are generating better picture quality at lower prices than ever before, and IP-based surveillance offers countless benefits over analog, including mobile functionality, video analytics, and the ability to improve customer experiences. As a result, for many retailers it makes sense to spend on video, particularly if migrating to IP technology or expanding an existing system.
