It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Rick Caruso, who’s built his way to a net worth of $2 billion or so by developing some of the nation’s most prestigious shopping centers, says we’re about to witness a brick-and-mortar retail renaissance.
After all, bricks and mortar are his fortune.
However, if you wrote off his opening keynote at last week’s NRF show as protectionist self-deception, you weren’t paying very close attention. While Caruso’s motivating speech painted a bright outlook for the physical retail experience, he offered up an alarming prediction for mall-based retailers.
