With smart safes, handling cash has quickly moved from necessary risk to competitive advantage for merchants.
According to a recent report from the Diary of Consumer Payment Choice, cash accounts for the largest single share (40 percent) of consumer transactions, followed by debit cards (25 percent) and credit cards (17 percent). Text and mobile payments — deemed the future of payments — currently comprise less than one half of one percent of payments. The ubiquity of the banknote has kept David Barclay, director of global marketing, and Glenn Mason, VP of global sales, at cash management solutions provider Tidel busy.
