Where Does The Mobile Wallet Go From Here?
May 2013 Integrated Solutions For Retailers
By Matt Pillar, editor in chief
As smartphones continue their march toward all-out indispensability, the mobile wallet concept has gone from far-fetched idea to rapid-growth reality.
At NRF last January, ISIS made a big splash with the announcement that its mobile wallet application was live at many locations in Austin and Salt Lake City. ISIS is a mobile contactless payments joint venture formed by AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile with the goal of making how consumers shop and pay a mobile phone proposition. The initiative was recently bolstered by the announcement that VeriFone will integrate the ISIS Mobile Commerce Application in its current and future NFC-enabled product lines. VeriFone and ISIS have also agreed that their sales, marketing, and implementation teams will collaborate to target large retail and petroleum/convenience merchants in the initial ISIS launch locations.
We caught up with payment solution industry veteran Tony Abruzzio, VP of business development at ISIS, to find out what’s next for the mobile wallet concept.
