There is an ancient proverb that says, "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Those retailers that froze or panicked as a result of the economic environment over the past 12 to 18 months are reaping the consequences of their lack of vision. In 2009, 250 retailers closed 13,190 store locations and, as of the end of January 2010, 25 retailers plan to close 1,404 locations. Conversely, retailers, such as Boot Barn, that have a very clearly defined vision are growing and expanding.
